News Impact

Questionable appointments

Dear Editor,

Apropos regarding the recent news item by All Raga Area Students Union published in your daily, my humble request to the Deputy Commissioner of Ziro is to verify the authenticity of all the Senior/Junior Preraks appointed by the ZPMs of Raga, Komporijo and Dollungmukh block on Kushi-Kushi Basis without consulting the grassroots leaders. Most of the candidates appointed are school or college going children. How will they serve in the interior places?

I think the Saakshar Bharat program is bound to fail in the Raga block if the educational certificates of those selected candidates are not verified to locate false documents. Many genuine candidates who are  based in the village have been deprived as a result just because they are not the Chamchas of these 'Maha-Chamchas'. I may file a PIL if nothing is done to rectify the matter.

Yours,

H.Peter, (on email)

Did I say modern?

Dear Editor,

The land of rising sun is endowed with rich culture and heritage. In recent years as it is progressing with modern era its losing its cultural identity. Many of the Arunachalees are adapting modern culture, neglecting their own.

Today, ask a child to recite a poem or sing a song in his or her language, there would be very few who would. We might feel skeptical about it, but this is the present scenario in Arunachal.

Even many of the parents feel that it is better that their child learn English or Hindi as it makes one more modern. Did I say modern? In truth it makes them dilapidated.

As quoted by great Swami Vivekananda - 'A lost in ones culture is loss in ones identity'. The day is not far when this loss in culture will lead to loss in our identity.

I do hope every Arunachalee will remember this message and take up the responsibility to uplift and encourage ones culture.

Yours,

Kamin lego, Roing

Where our liberal ideas are taking us?

Dear Editor,

The present generation of 21st century Arunachali youth are unbounded by all ancient conservative views and hoaxes on intersex relationships. They are more bold and independent towards such relationships in their life. Today the teenagers of schools and colleges openly indulge in living relationships and it has become a fashion and style statement for them. But the truth is that only the quantity of such relationships has increased the true value of love and affection in such relationships has been lost. The frequent mms scandals, increased number of teenage abortions, teenage suicides, and violence during relationships speak it all, where our liberal ideas are taking us to? What I feel the most important question is that “are our young teenagers really mature enough for relationships??”  The credit for the evolution of this article in my mind goes to the following incident I witnessed last evening with my friend.

Last evening I was out with my friend for a walk near the Pasighat general ground. I saw a young couple aged not more than 19-20 years quarrelling near the roadside. After a while the girl walked towards the ground and sat there, she looked quite annoyed. The guy followed her and suddenly jumped off his bike and started to blow punches and kicks to the girl on her face. The people around including me and my friend were shocked by the brutality of the assault. The girl was down and was weeping. After a while he dragged the girl on his bike and to my utter surprise she went away with the same guy. I was standing about less than 100m away watching the scene helplessly. The only reason I hold myself back from interfering in the situation was the recent incident when my friend was beaten up trying to interfere in a similar situation. When the police got involved he was surprised and shattered with dismay when the girl denied to have been violently assaulted, and further said it was their personal matter and also that she never called for help.

This is not the story of my town Pasighat alone this is the story of every town of Arunachal. Today the public places of many towns of Arunachal have turned into a hub for such shameless couples who settle their so called personal disputes with inhuman scenes of violence and probably expect the people around to watch helplessly with sheer feeling of disgust and guilt.

What I feel is that no one is to be blamed or everyone is to be blamed. Such incidents reflect the immaturity of our present generation youth. The globalization, modernization  era in our state has benefited mostly the youth section and also did exploit it the most. Technological advancements has opened the window of the west in front of us and  to the worst of it  we have adopted and engraved ourselves so much in the western trends of lifestyle that we really shouldn’t be surprised with these consequences we are facing as they are expected. Teenage sections probably are the most influenced and the worst sufferers.

We youths are the future branches of the tree named Arunachal, and how can we expect the tree to be strong when we are borrowing the roots from others. And about the teenage relationship mania in our Arunachal,  I really want to advice my fellow youths , before you start and give yourself in a relationship ask yourself, “ am I old and matured enough for  it??”  Maybe this simple question can help to save our life and our society from ruining.

Yours,

Nguli Dabi,

Pasighat, (on email)
